The earliest known appearance of TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce in film dates to 1901, when it appeared as the centerpiece of a 25-second silent movie titled<em>\u00a0Aunt Jane\u2019s Experience with Tabasco Sauce<\/em>. Since then, TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce has made a lengthy list of appearances that would humble even the most seasoned actors.<\/p>\n<p>For example, TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce appeared as a comedic prop in outtakes from Charlie Chaplin\u2019s silent film\u00a0<em>The Immigrant<\/em>\u00a0(1917),\u00a0James Bond movies\u00a0<em>The Man with the Golden Gun<\/em>\u00a0(1974) and\u00a0<em>The Spy Who Loved Me<\/em>\u00a0(1977), and\u00a0<em>Back to the Future III<\/em>\u00a0(1990). In addition, TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce has been mentioned or used in a number of television programs, including \u201cThe X-Files\u201d (1999), \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d (2000), and more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce also showed up in virtually every episode of\u00a0<em>Roswell\u00a0<\/em>(1999-2002), whose alien teenagers regularly spiced up their meals with copious amounts of the sauce. Fans of\u00a0<em>Roswell<\/em>\u00a0so strongly associated TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce with the program that they flooded the WB Network with thousands of bottles of TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce to protest the series\u2019 cancellation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\"><u>TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0SAUCE + THE U.S. MILITARY<\/u><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p>McIlhenny Company and TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Brand products have enjoyed a close relationship with the U.S. military ever since John Avery McIlhenny joined the Rough Riders volunteer cavalry regiment during the Spanish-American War and his son Walter S. McIlhenny served in the Marine Corps Reserve before, during and after World War II.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>John Avery was promoted twice on the battlefield for gallantry in action, and followed his former commander, Theodore Roosevelt, to Washington, D.C.\u00a0 There he worked in the Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson administrations, before retiring in the early 1920s from the U.S. State Department.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>John&#8217;s Avery\u2019s son, Walter, joined the Virginia National Guard in 1929 and six years later transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve. During World War II, Walter earned a Silver Star and the Navy Cross for gallantry, as well as a Purple Heart with Gold Star for being wounded twice.\u00a0 In 1959 he retired from the Marine Corps Reserve with the rank of brigadier general.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During his tenure as McIlhenny Company president Walter forged an enduring relationship between the TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Brand and the U.S. military.\u00a0 For example, one year after US troops entered Vietnam, Walter issued\u00a0<em>The Charlie Ration Cookbook<\/em>, which advised soldiers how to spice up their C rations with TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce.\u00a0 Walter shipped these cookbooks \u2014 along with 2-oz. bottles of sauce \u2014 to US troops by the thousands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the 1980s the military chose TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce for inclusion in its new MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat) and eventually two-thirds of all MRE packets contained a miniature bottle of TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce.\u00a0 During operations Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom, U.S. troops \u2014 and even some allied troops \u2014 sent letters and souvenirs to McIlhenny Company as tokens of appreciation for the \u201ctaste of home.\u201d\u00a0 As General Norman Schwarzkopf wrote to a Louisiana congressman in July 1991, \u201cThe MRE has definitely been refined over the years, but it is not mom&#8217;s home cooking.\u00a0 They definitely still can use the flavor of TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0to spice them up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Still today, any U.S. active duty service member is able to order TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce from McIlhenny Company free of charge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2321 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/test.tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-1030x515.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-1030x515.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-1536x768.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-2048x1024.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-500x250.jpg 500w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-1300x650.jpg 1300w, https:\/\/tastesetters.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/BpYUJ1X-600x300.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Throughout its 150 year history, TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce has received many honors around the world, and been in the places where history was made. TABASCO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Sauce was present at the excavation of King Tut&#8217;s tomb; was airlifted by NASA to SKYLAB when the astronauts complained about their bland rations; and in the Himalayas, Mount Everest climbers rewarded their Sherpa guides with bottles of the condiment.
